Menswear Style x Harrods

Soft tailoring, summer layers and colour splash; to kick-off the London Collections: Men, Menswear Style founder Craig Landale demos how to work these easy trends for the season, shot by street style photographer Kit Lee [AKA Style Slicker] for Harrods.com Style Insider.

Soft Tailoring

Whether for work or play, for a softer take on a more tailored look, Craig suggests: "Lighter suit shades such as greys, blues and checked patterns are perfect. Add a casual edge to your look with looser tailored silhouettes in linens and seersucker - just be aware of creasing for more formal occasions. Mix and match jackets with different tailored trousers too for a more laid-back approach. Opt for more pared-down accessories to keep the tailoring the focus of the look."

Summer Layers

When it comes to layering up for summer months, Craig says: "Layering is key in the summer months when weather can be a little unpredictable. Layer up a lightweight knit with a Henley shirt and top with a jacket. Add a summer scarf if you're off somewhere windy, then simply peel them off as the heat rises. Don't forget the shades - tortoiseshell frames will go with anything."

Colour Splash

For those more daring in the style stakes, colour and print ruled the SS14 runways at Paul Smith and Givenchy. Craig suggests a more low-key take on the trend: "The print trend this season has brought us Camouflage, African, Floral, Animal and Paisley to name a few, while on the colour side sunset shades and cobalt blue were the stand-out hues. I prefer to go a bit more understated with my prints and colour pairings, so subtle prints on trousers allow for more playful colour bursts on tees, which can then be toned down with a black biker jacket."
